Case study: Marie
Marie began to access the Shining Stars group at the end of her second pregnancy and she was supported at sessions and through one to one mentoring to apply for a hospitality and catering programme at VWNC starting September 2013. She had studied this previously when living out of area and had a great passion and flare for the subject. The sessions allowed Marie to continue to develop her skills and talents through the healthy cookery sessions and she was also able to bring along her 4year old to play, socialise and make friends. Marie saw the sessions as a social life line to help her get out the house, keep a focus and make friends. Her partner also attended some of the sessions and gained IAG about getting back into education.
Marie was forced to move out of area temporarily (and give up her college place) when an ex-partner was released from prison and her family were placed at risk. After having her baby and after returning to the area Marie continues to progress with her life and has already made plans to return to college in 2014. The charity will also be supporting her to organise financial support and childcare for to ensure she has a positive experience when re-entering the education system. Marie's confidence and maturity has blossomed throughout the time we have worked with her and I am sure she will continue to flourish as a student and mum alike.
