Case study: Joe Hardy
Joe was recruited to The Inspire and Achieve programme by Jay Moore, our Youth and Outreach Officer, as part of his outreach work. Joe started to regularly attend the boxing programme at Body and Soul gym where he started to build a mentoring relationship with Jay.
Through Inspire and Achieve Joe secured ten weeks work experience at Ransom Wood Estates in groundworks/maintenance where he excelled and gained an excellent reference. Despite mentoring support, Joe was still struggling to secure a job mainly because of his confidence and the fact that he is quite a reserved young man. Joe completed the Accelerate programme which boosted his confidence massively and gave him a better chance in interviews.
The Inspire and Achieve Foundation arranged some interviews with local employers including T and M Civil Engineering. Joe was successful at interview and once he has completed his Personal Track Safety licence he will start work with T and M.
Joe comments “before I started this course I did not feel comfortable with meeting new people. But after the team helped me come out of my comfort zone I am now able to meet new people. They have helped me get over my fears, now I am willing to talk and give answers to the group. When the course is finished I am looking to the future and different opportunities that are now open to me. I would like to thank all the staff that has helped me.”
